Varanasi and the Ganges are historical landmarks. 670 million Hindues live there. The children that live in Varanasi are very educated. They are able to speak English well. There are stairs named the Ghats. There are mountains called the Ghats that are very high like the stairs. When people die there cremated and there ashes and bones are thrown into the Ganges River. Speaking of ashes, Hashes is an illegal drug. People are aloud to smoke this drug legally in Varanasi. The cow is consitered to these people in Varanasi.

Did you know that you use oil about every where you go? You might not think this is true but tires, toothpaste, trash bags, and tennis rackets are all made of crude oil. Oil is the most important item traded between countries today. 90% of the world’s transportation runs on petroleum. How much oil is left in the ground? U.S. government thinks about2.6 trillion barrels. (42 gallons a barrel) About 1.7 trillion barrels are “discovered” and 900 billion barrels are “not discovered”. U.S.A. scientists think that oil may be in certain rock formations called Oil shale or marlstone. Oil shale is in rocks and they get it out by heating it up to 900 degrees F. in a kiln. The worlds demand for petroleum intensifies. Oil already provides 40% of the worlds energy. The U.S. economy is more energy efficient than it used to be. The new car called the Minicat runs totally off of compressed air. Saudi Arabia has the most amount of oil like about 261 billion barrels. United States has about 22.7 billion barrels.

Dear friend,

Kemal Ataturk has just died and some people are happy and some people are not. I am somewhat happy and somewhat not very happy. I am not happy because about 13 years ago he banned thewearing of fezzes. All men were mad because the fez is the stile. The women are mad to because Kemal Ataturk banned the wearing of the veils. Kemal Ataturk was our new president and wanted to make everybody wear western style clothing. He moved the capitol from Istanbul to Ankara. He made the alphabet like the Roman alphabet. Kemal Ataturk, three month after the change in the alphabet, he wanted all newspapers, street signs, and books to be printed in the new alphabet. Kemal Ataturk is a president but he is also a dictator. Back to the woman and men, kemal Ataturk wanted to not only change the way everybody dressed but also the way they lived. Kemal Ataturk ordered the girls to go to school out of their home. The women finally got the right to get jobs in businesses and the government. Women were also given the right to vote. My friends and the people I work with always like going to pray. I still don’t really appreciate what he had done to Turkey and some people agree. Now you know the history of Kemal Ataturk.
